About
First premiering in 1841, with choreography by Jean Corelli and Jules Perrot, music by Adolphe Adam and plot by Theofilo Gautier.
'Giselle' is the story of a simple and innocent peasant girl in delicate health who falls madly in love with Albrecht, a duke disguised as a villager for amusement. Hilarion, a young peasant in love with Giselle, discovers the deception and reveals that Albrecht is a nobleman and is engaged to a noblewoman Bathilde. Giselle goes crazy and dies disappointed. Her death transforms her into a “Willi”, a ghostly spirit of those young women who die before getting married. Men who approach these pure souls again must die, it is the Willis law. Albretch, repentant, goes to visit her at her misty grave, begging her forgiveness for his deception. Giselle, deeply in love, forgives Albrecht and allows him to return to the real world, proving to him the intensity and eternity of her love.
Giselle will be presented in collaboration with Youth Ballet Company Panama, under the artistic direction of Maria Eugenia Herrera and Sanctuary of the Arts Choreographic Ensemble under the direction of Rafael Maldonado and Alice Arja, with guest dancers Maria Eugenia Herrera and Gretel Batista, next to CCBM corps de ballet.
